This week, Drew and Tom are joined on air by Simon Lack, author of Bonds Are Not Forever.

Following 23 years with JPMorgan, Simon Lack founded SL Advisors, LLC, in 2009. Prior to that, Simon was CEO and founder of the JPMorgan Incubator Funds, two private equity vehicles that took economic stakes in emerging hedge fund managers.  From the late 1980s through 1999 through several bank mergers Simon ran Fixed Income Derivatives and Forward FX trading for JPMorgan and predecessor institutions, ultimately overseeing 50 professionals and $300 million in annual revenues.  Simon also sat on JPMorgan’s investment committee allocating over $1 billion to hedge fund managers.  He is the author of two books: The Hedge Fund Mirage: The Illusion of Big Money and Why It’s Too Good to Be True, published in 2011 to widespread praise from mainstream financial press including The Economist, Financial Times and Wall Street Journal; Bonds Are Not Forever; The Crisis Facing Fixed Income Investors (August 2013). Simon makes regular appearances on cable TV business shows discussing hedge funds and investing.

This week, Drew was joined by Carol Coughlin, founder of BottomLine Growth Strategies, Inc. 

A respected leader, financial strategy expert, and entrepreneur, Carol was recognized as one of SmartCEO’s 25 BRAVA! Award winners (2012), The Daily Records’ Maryland Top 100 Women (2012), and Woman in Balance (MyCity4Her, 2012). Her expertise has been featured on Fox Business News, and she was tapped to participate in the White House Business Council. In addition to her work with BottomLine Growth, Carol gains much personal satisfaction by working with or on board including: advisory, public, private company and non-profits. Currently Carol sits on the board for Hamilton Bank (“HBK”) and is chair of the audit committee. She also holds a board position with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland.  Carol has also previously held a board position with Network 2000.

Carol holds a BS in Business/Accounting from Towson University and is a magna cum laude graduate of Loyola University with a Masters in Business Administration. She holds both CPA and the CEPA (Certified Exit Planning Advisor) designations.

Before U.S. Trust, Liz Ann was at Avatar Associates, an original division of the Zweig/Avatar Group, for 13 years as a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager.

Since joining Schwab, Liz Ann has been named one of SmartMoney's "Power 30," its list of the most influential people on Wall Street; strategist of the year by Kiplinger's; one of the "25 Most Powerful Women in Finance" by American Banker/USBanker and one of the "50 Top Women in Wealth" by Wealth Manager/AdvisorOne.

In 2005, Liz Ann was appointed to and served on the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform, President Bush's bipartisan tax-reform commission. Since 2007 she has served on the national board of directors for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. In 2008 Liz Ann was honored by the Girl Scouts of New York as an "Exceptional Role Model for Young Women."

This week, Drew and Tim are joined by John Tomasi, author of the new book Free Market Fairness. John Tomasi is a Professor of Political Science at Brown University and Director of the Political Theory Project at Brown. He also holds an appointment at the University of Arizona's Center for the Philosophy of Freedom where he is a University Associate and Research Professor. Tomasi received his B.A. from Colby College, his M.A. from the University of Arizona (1990), and his B. Phil., D. Phil. from Oxford University (1993). He has held previous positions at the University Center for Human Values at Princeton, the Department of Philosophy at Stanford, and the Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard. His specializations are political theory and ethics and public policy. In addition to numerous scholarly articles, Tomasi is author of Liberalism Beyond Justice: Citizens Society and the Boundaries of Political Theory (Princeton University Press, 2001) and Free Market Fairness (Princeton University Press, 2012).
